Over the past few months, I’ve seen a lot of people raving on about this £3.30 mascara from Wilko. After reading about how amazed people were with this product, I felt like I needed to give it a try – I didn’t want to miss out on a potential bargain!
I went to my local Wilko store and picked up one of the mascaras. I’ve tried it a handful of times now and thought I would share my honest opinion about it… I really don’t know what all of the fuss was about!
The packaging is nice, I like how the turquoise pattern on the lid is rubberised to help with grip when twisting the lid off.
As for the wand, it’s just a standard bristle brush.
Over the years, I have tried a lot of mascaras, and I would say that this Essence mascara from Wilko’s is average. I suppose for the price, it’s one of the better cheap mascaras, but personally, I would prefer to spend a little more and get a decent product. My go-to mascara is the L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara, it does cost £10.99, but it’s actually AMAZING.
The consistency of the Essence False Lash Effect Mascara is nice, it’s not too dry and it’s not too wet. When I apply the mascara, I don’t have to wait for ages for it dry, which is one of the plus factors about this product. The way that it applies to lashes is actually okay, but compared to other mascaras I have used, it can be a little clumpy and doesn’t lift or separate my lashes as well – but it’s still not terrible. (I don’t use eyelash curlers btw)
So far, you might be wondering what is it about the mascara that I don’t like and the pictures below show the reason why.
Every time I use this mascara, after only about an hour of having it on, I notice that it has left lash marks on my eyelids. I always set my eyelids with powder, so it really shouldn’t be transferring. When you’re out and about, you don’t want to have to keep checking on your mascara and removing black smudges. This is where you can tell that you’re using a cheap mascara.
All in all, for the price it’s an alright little mascara. The packaging is quite cute and if you’re on a budget, it will do (as long as you don’t mind having to remove black smudges from your eyelids every hour). I don’t really understand why this mascara went viral, but I am glad that I gave it a try.
I’ll carry on using it for now because I hate wasting makeup, but I won’t be repurchasing this mascara.
